Federal Budget Update

The 2026–27 Federal Budget has just been released, bringing a few tax updates worth knowing about. Some of the bigger discussions are around property investments, with proposed changes to negative gearing and capital gains tax from 1 July 2027.For small businesses, the Government is introducing a range of tax changes to support growth and improve cash flow. Companies will be able to use current year losses to offset tax paid in recent years, and early-stage start-ups will later be able to receive refunds for losses in their first years to help them stay afloat. The $20,000 instant asset write-off will also be made permanent, giving small businesses more certainty when investing in equipment.
